Every night before turning out the light the world-famous author reaches for her favourite book, Bogart, and is soon wafted back to the days when she was young, carefree and following the adventures of this rascally reprobate in Today, the Daily Mail and The Sunday Times. Once again she is there with her old friends Roz, The Phantom, Rob the pigeon, Quincy the frog, Eric the rubber plant, Mrs Kaznowski the warden at Colditch Cattery and all the brothers at the Loyal Order of Beavers. Then, giggling to herself, she closes her eyes and falls into a deep sleep, to dream of being, herself, a naughty, capricious little rogue like Bogart.
